NiniChic: Glam In Exotic Prints

October 28th, 2009 Nini Leave a comment Go to comments

Everyone seems to be into exotic prints this fall and that includes me. Leopard, cheetah and tiger prints are so popular right now and that seems to be the trend of exotic prints: they come and go away and then they come back again. This has been going on for decades…just look at the animal prints in older decades like the 60’s or 70’s. This fall leopard, cheetah and tiger  are definitely a big hit. For my personal taste I  prefer vintage exotic prints clothing and accessories. Vintage is great because I can save money while wearing one-of-a-kind pieces.

Animal prints can be a fashion disaster if you don’t wear them right. When you wear animal prints keep the outfit as simple as possible. If you have on a leopard print coat, let the coat be the statement piece and keep the rest of your outfit clean and sleek. I recommend black because the print usually has that tone included in it. You don’t want
to go overboard with leopard prints.

Among all of the exotic prints, tiger print is my favorite. I was born in the year of the tiger so anything that has a touch of tiger, I just love. I’m wearing a tiger print scarf. I like the scarf to be exotic and to have lots of movement. I went to the fabric store today and bought 4 yards of fabric and turned it into this scarf. You can do the same too! Let all the edges be raw to have a street inspired look. (Plus, a LOT of Lanvin edges are raw too!) Chiffon and silk are your best choices for scarves because both fabrics are light lightweight and will give you a nice drape. The scarf I have on is Chiffon and it cost me $20.00. Shop smart, dress well!.

Wearing: 4 yards of fabric used as a scarf, J-brand jean, Theory blouse, YSL tribute pumps, Super sunnies and Givenchy bag.

NINITIPS: Wearing prints correctly has a lot to do with your comfort and confidence. Prints are a great way to change things up a bit so don’t be afraid to experiment. Just remember: you are wearing the tiger, the tiger should not be wearing you! Have fun with exotic prints and keep it glam!!!!

Love this look and how you play with this super big tiger fabric, it is not easy to handle with both huge size and prints, but you easily made it. Lesson learnt!

nini- it’s another gorgeous outfit of you!
i have always thought about that of buying animal print
fabric too and create my own design. but, i didn’t get a
chance to grab one from a fabric store yet.

thanks for the tip again, nini!

  14. October 28th, 2009 at 05:21 | #14

    xx

  15. October 28th, 2009 at 05:36 | #15

You look so cute with the scarf as a hood! Great tip about using the fabric xx

  16. October 28th, 2009 at 05:53 | #16

Mmmh so Actually Beyond your blouse so discreet/sensual transparency I really like the “Oversized Accessory” idea, AND The fact that your “YSL Tribute pumps” (whose Dizzy Majesty “Astonishingly” shape your delicate feet) always sound as a “NiniFetiCHIC-issime” expression . . .
    Hope you’re Well Dear.

    Amicalement, Antoine

  19. October 28th, 2009 at 08:27 | #19

Nini, that is absolutely inspired, and hat’s off to Loc, the shots are gorgeous in that sunlight.

It’s so true: animal prints as a trend are cyclical. This isn’t the first wave, surely, but at the moment, the creative ways the prints are used are beyond any previous times. The prints are bigger, bolder.. and there’s no point in spending a fortune on anything in animal print because it WILL seem dated.. unless you put it in a box and wait another 7 or so years.

So buying fabric, in such a huge amount.. it’s stunning, and oh so savvy.

Can’t believe you woke & thought of me! I’m chuffed to bits. Have a lovely day.

    xoxo

    Hey girl!

You were asking how I am! Well, I’m soooo bussy lately that I don’t have time to take picture of my daily outfits to post it on my blog! My faculty wants a lot of time :D but I like it!

I loooove animal prints, but as you said u really need to be careful if you don’t wanna look like granny who got her leopard printed tee on the market! hehe

I don’t even need to mention that you look fab as always! Great scarf, though.

How is your week so far? Busy?

    Take care…<3

Oh yeah–Raccoon faux tails–you rarely see this, but I’ve seen the tails stitched onto little Davey Crockette raccoon hats for little boys at gift shops in San Antonio around the Alamo/Riverwalk…I don’t know if that would help you though since you’re in DFW…that’s the ONLY time I’ve ever seen that! What a rare item, good luck on your DIY

    @angel
WOHHH!! Welcome back angel. I knew that you are still visiting :-) . I had to replace **** with the word you were using in the comment above. It makes you look very uneducated, which I think you are. Also, it’s tiger prints not leopard, even I knew that!! :-) Yikes!! I am wondering why negative comments only seem to come from people that live near Nini in Dallas. Weird…

  36. October 28th, 2009 at 15:01 | #36

    Hi Nini,

It sounds like a simple enough DIY and the result is so fabulous! You truly live by your fashion rule when you said that you don’t have to spend a million to look like a million! This is one classic example!

Thanks for yet another wonderful post!

what an amazingly cool idea! i wish i could get hold of some similar material- the fabric selection on my island is rather horrid! will add it to USA shopping list, then!
you found the perfect fabric- wonderful, luxurious drape. love the drama you’ve created with just a simple piece of animal print.

I don’t know why, but I don’t love this. Something about it doesn’t work for me. I look at these pictures twice and it just doesn’t. I do love the J Brands, the Givenchy and the YSLs though : )

  64. November 5th, 2009 at 11:07 | #64

Hey that’s a great “DIY” idea. Yards of fabric as a scarf. I’ve been coveting the long knit scarf. Maybe I can find something comparable at Mood. LOL :) Not sure I’m quite sold on animal print, yet, but you rock it!

  65. November 5th, 2009 at 18:16 | #65

The tiger print looks amazing! Everyone has been wearing leopard lately, tiger totally changes up the animal print trend. Love it :)
