Sergey Ermakov: Designing With A Vision

April 20th, 2010 Nini 16 comments
Loc and I attended the “Designing With A Vision” with Sergey Ermakov last Friday’s night. It is a fundraiser event that benefit the American Blind Foundation in Dallas that helps the blinds. Loc was honored to shoot another runway and backstage at this fashion show.
Sergey is a very well known designer in Ukraine. He was diagnosed with diabetic retinopathy at age 11 and lost 95 percent of his vision and still pursued his dream to be a tailor and today he’s the most expensive haute couture designer in Ukraine. His pricing would be comparable to Oscar de la Renta, Valentino or Naeem Khan.  He’s such an inspiration. I was touched by his story. His creations are inspired by arts, literatures, natures, and history.  He uses his senses of touch and sound to select the fabrics.  Best of all, all of his work  are hand made.
I approached him after the show to introduce myself and he is a very warm and quiet person.  Even though Sergey can’t see my face but he was looking right at me the entire time when I was around him. I think he can feel the positive energy I have for him or the Comme des Garcons silver collar :-) .  I truly admired his work and his philosophy of life. Sergey only can see 5% of what a normal person can see, yet he will not give up his dream of what he love to do. That tells us that any dream can comes true if you put your heart and mind into it.  It’s all about passion and love, and your dream will be reached. Have a lovely day everyone!! xoxo Nini

The Junior League, Rock The Runway

April 10th, 2010 Nini 26 comments

I attended a fantastic event called The Junior League Rock The Runway Challenge last night. Five designers were given the challenge of creating dresses out of designated D Magazine covers and each designer also had the opportunity to show five pieces from their collection. My friend, Nha-Khanh (who designed my wedding gown) was one of the designers. Nha-Khanh’s collection was very elegant but it also had a touch of masculinity. She pays really close attention to the small details in all of her dresses and this creates a sexy look, but she never moves away from elegance. I’m a SERIOUS fan!  I’m in love with the with treatment of the feathers in ivory. And of course the high waisted fan tulle skirt with the sleeveless blouse tucked in: fabulous.

It has been awhile since I last wore this MMM nude cape. I love this cape so much! Unfortunately it’s so fragile and I don’t want to damage it by wearing it too much. I think you all understand that, right? Sometimes, there are certain things you love but because you have to be extra careful each time you wear them, you can’t wear them too often. Those items, we have to enjoy by looking at them without wearing!

Tina Craig @ bagsnob was there rocking a paper dress designed by Oscar Fierro. Her blog is great. If you don’t know it, check it out!

As I have mentioned before,
MMM is my favorite. The fashion house is not the same since he’s not with the company anymore. I’m looking to collect a few pieces that he designed. To me, he’s truly an amazing designer.

I had so much fun at the event with Nha-Khanh and it was quite an experience for Loc too, since this was his first time shooting runway. I think he did a fantastic job! Loc is still building his portfolio. He’s truly a great photographer and hopefully he will get more opportunities in the near future. Hope you are all well. Enjoy the weekend! xoxo Nini

Ranjana Khan Necklace

October 7th, 2009 Nini 34 comments

This beautiful crystal beaded Ranjana Khan necklace is one of my new purchases from Neiman Marcus. I wore the necklace with my Fendi leather skirt to the Naeem Khan and Ranjana Khan shows in NYC. I met her and her husband Naeem Khan and in person they are both artistic, humble and very kind people. To be honest with you I’m not big on jewelry but her jewelry is just beautiful. The new collection all has a beautiful touch of old world glamour and a classic Hollywood look to it.  I took some photos at the show and I hope you enjoy them. I thank each one of you sincerely for taking your time to visit my blog. xoxoxo Nini Nguyen

My Top Two

October 5th, 2009 Nini 16 comments

Hi everyone -

Thanks for all the sweet comments on my previous post. Hopefully Loc and I can get together tomorrow to work on some photos for the new entry.

Paris Fashion Week is going on right now and I’m  so excited to
see all the beautiful things that are coming out for Spring 2010.

If you have not seen them, you MUST check out the shows on style.com. So far Maison Martin Margiela and Ann D are my favorite. I feel like Margiela has never dissapointed his audience. His collections are unpredictable compared to
other designers and fashion houses. He always takes the road less traveled and the work is
always so innovative. I also love the seductively masculine silhouettes at the Ann D show. Those chains and the long
skirts are divine. I’m also really anxious to see what’s coming out for Louis Vuitton for Spring 2010 as they scheduled to show the collection on October 7th.

Rodarte Spring/Summer 2010

September 15th, 2009 Nini 40 comments

Hanh, Lucrecia and I attented the Rodarte show today. The collection
was amazing! I especially loved the details: the leather cut-outs were to die for.
We ran into so many people at the show. Rachel Zoe , Kirsten Dunst, Elijah Wood and Iris
Apfel. We had a long chat with Tommy from Jak and Jil. He’s so nice and he has such a great sense of humor!
When I saw Carine Roitfeld stepping out of the limo  my heart was truly beating at its maximum speed. As you all know she is my
muse. So sorry for the lack of updates but I have been traveling…
I hope you guys enjoy the  photos.
Hanh and I are heading to the Rodarte after-party right now.
Xoxo Nini :-)

I VOTED FOR

For Naeem Khan

At the opening of the San Francisco Opera this season, several women stood
out. But I think the one who really shone was Deepa Pakianathan. She really
took a risk with the beautiful embroidery of her floor length gown. The
draping is especially interesting because the gown is so intricate: each
bead is stitched by hand!

Right now, there is a poll to see which dress you liked the best. My
favorite is Deepa Pakianathan and I already voted from my computer and
iphone!
