2 Yards Of Silk = Nini’s Style Dress

July 26th, 2010 Nini 28 comments

This is something that I thrown up at the very last minute to meet up with our friends for dinner and cocktails. I tried many things but was not happy with the look that I tried to achieve.

I started playing with this piece of nude silk fabrics that I bought for one of my projects. I draped it on my body and I really like how it turned out. It was perfect! I want something drapery, elegant, and has an edge and this piece was perfect for the occasion.

I got tons of compliments, people were asking who made my dress and I told them that all it takes:

*2 yards of nice silk fabrics

*Drape it on your body asymmetrical, and tie a knot on the back

*Secure it with a nice belt.

If you have any questions feel free to ask:-D Have a fabulous day everyone!! XoxoNini

Wearing it with: Rick Owens tank, vintage necklace and alligator clutch, Current/Elliot black jeans, Fendi Pony hair booties.

With my other half, Khanh Nguyen

Khanh and I did a mini photo shoot at our studio for our website and press yesterday. Most of them are just candid photos where we were playing with the fabrics and mannequin.

Look at Nhã Khanh, she’s so adorable!

We started draping fabrics on me and it just happen that it turned out to be a style that we both like. I decided to wear it for the shoot. Pretty cool right?

Nhã Khanh is playing dress up. It’s a skirt but you also can wear it as a top.  Super awesome in person.

This Fendi shoes goes with everything! I just love it.

Nhã Khanh’s wedding gown that recently got featured in Modern Luxury – Houston Brides summer issue

Here we go! both bride and bridesmaid are in Nhã Khanh gowns

That’s all for now! Have a fabulous weekend everyone!! xoxo Nini

My Favorite Top 13 Outfits From My Archives

July 8th, 2010 Nini 25 comments

Summer is in full swing and the heat seems here to stay. This is the perfect time to re-assess your wardrobe. I like to go through my archives in the very beginning of each season and again in the middle of the season. As I’ve written about before, going through the things you already own and shopping your own closet can bring surprises. There is nothing better than finding something you forgot you had and integrating it into your seasonal wardrobe.

Going through my archives made me want to do a post on my favorite outfits.  If you’re looking for ideas on what to wear, sometimes it can be best to go through your own archives or even (for all my fellow bloggers) look through old posts for inspiration and to help you refresh your memory. I would love to see your favorite top 13 outfits. Drop me your link if you’re doing it.

NY fashion week look: Maison Martin Margiela black pleated dress, MMM nude body suit,  Balenciaga leggings, Comme des Garcons silver collar Givenchy bag and shoes.

Love my long Rick Owens skirt, AA tees and YSL pumps

The back of this Rick Owens dress is stunning! The length of this dress is a little odd and I’m still looking for a perfect shoes for it. Any suggestions?

My all time favorite shrug. I got it from Salvation Army for $12.99 and it’s the best purchase ever! I’m wearing it with a vintage dress and YSL pumps. I wear it at least once a week, and every time I wear it people stop me to asking me about my $12.99 piece. That just goes to prove that not every thing in your closet has to be expensive. This item really proves why I love to shop at second hand stores: sometimes the cheapest items can become priceless!

Love the clean and simple silhouette of this Maison Martin Margiela top. I forgot that I owned this top until I went through my archives.

Lanvin pink dress with YSL booties. This dress is definitely my favorite. The color of it is just so vibrant. I don’t know what I was thinking trying sell this dress on Ebay for nothing!

Love this wide legged Givenchy pant. The only thing about these pants is that every time I wear them I always step into the hem and trip over it.

With Hanh, wearing Maison Martin Margiela nude cape with Givenchy booties.

I’m a huge fan of high waisted bottoms because they show off my problem area by flattering it. High waisted pants, shorts and skirts help elongate my hips and make my body look longer. The silhouette is versatile and sexy yet sophisticated. Wearing Ann Demeulemeester pants

Love the crazy shoulders of this Dolce & Gabbana blouse. Wearing it with my favorite F21 short and vintage clutch.

Maison Martin Margiela top, Comme des Garcons blommer, vintage clutch and favorite Givenchy booties

Don’t we all love black and white together. Classic combo! Wearing F21 short, Vince tees and Fendi shoes

The color of this Comme des Garcons skirt made me happy. Although I wear a lot of black but pink is my all time favorite color. With Khanh @ SATC 2.

On my Birthday, wearing my favorite YSL black pumps with my favorite people. Christopher Kane dress

Have a fabulous day everyone!!! xoxo Nini

Vintage Shopping With Life-In-Travel & Nha-Khanh

June 28th, 2010 Nini 45 comments

Hi everyone! I hope you all are well! Is everyone surviving the heat? Hanh and I, and our fashion designer friend, Nha-Khanh all got together on Saturday for a girl’s day out. We went to the temple then did some vintage shopping and then went out to lunch. All of us had such a wonderful time and we even had a couple of moments that I will never forget.

I have a huge crush on Hanh’s killer Rodarte booties. She says they are very comfortable.

I’m wearing a tulle blouse that I got at a second hand store called Clothes Circuit. I paid $30.00 for it. It’s really poufy. I cinched it in with a skinny belt to emphasize my waist.

Belt from Buffalo Exchange, Fendi pony hair booties, vtg Levis short,  Givenchy bag and Super sunnies

I saw this vintage crystal necklace the last few times I was in the store but I didn’t buy it. This time, when I came back and the necklace was still in the case, I had to have it! It was as if it had been waiting just for me.
We tried on tons of things and had fun being silly for the camera.
Nha-Khanh and Hanh
That fabulous vintage fur jacket I tried on is Hanh’s new treasure.
Hanh’s python Derek Lam bag and vintage fox tails fur, There were only two and they belongs to us.
We had too much fun :-)

All of us got lucky and found some goodies. I got a fabulous alligator clutch and fox tail to go with it. I will show them in my next post.
Hope you are all enjoying summer!
