Hello Paciugo

June 27th, 2009 Nini 62 comments

I’m not a sweet-tooth but every now and again Loc takes me out to have some ice cream. Our usual spot is Paciugo. They have fresh ice cream made every morning and my favorite flavor is mocha.  A lot of readers have emailed me to ask what kind of exercise I do to keep my body slim and fit. My answer is I don’t do as much as I would like to do. I walk a lot and I really watch what I eat to maintain my weight.

I just added two new pieces to my closet. The first is a fabulous brown vintage silk shrug. I love to add items that have a bit of drape to them to outfits like this because it gives me an elegant movement when I walk and brings a balance to the look. The second item is way more rock-and-roll: vintage Levis 501 ribbed shorts that I bought from Urban Outfitters for $28.00. I think the shorts will be a great addition to my closet. I plan to wear them with anything that is a little more conservative. I can’t wait to try a vintage boyfriend blazer with them or pair them with an over-sized sweater for fall.

Wearing: Lanvin yellow tank with bows, vintage brown silk wrap, vintage Levis 501 short, vintage bag, Marni shoes, Club Monaco lucite cuffs and Alexander McQueen clutch.

Ninitip: Prevent looking like a teenager when you wear your ripped shorts by pairing them with something stylistically opposite. I paired them with something clean and elegant to keep the shorts from making the entire outfit too grungy. Mixing high and low as well as clean and dirty is a fun way to create functional outfits! That way you can rock a chic look with  a nice elegant lift to whatever you wear.

Have a nice weekend everyone!!! Nini Nguyen

Junya Watanabe Zebra Dress & Winner For Current/Elliot Giveaway

June 24th, 2009 Nini 66 comments

Congrats to Thumbelina Fashionista, the winner for the Current Elliot Giveaway.  Thanks everyone for participating and hopefully we will have another giveaway sometime in the near future.

Even though I’m a big fan of black and white zebra print photography, I have never owned any animal print clothes in my wardrobe and this season I’m open to trying something new. I’m wearing this Junya Watanabe out to dinner with Loc. Zebra prints are fun to wear but they can look harsh if you don’t do it right. I keep the look really simple and make it pop with a bright red lipstick. I’m so excited about this zebra print piece because I can wear it in so many combination with any neutral things in my closet.

Ninitip: When you wear any kind of animal print always keep your
accessories minimal and your finger nail color muted. That way your look is more
clean and glamor.

Have a nice day everyone!!!! xoxox Nini Nguyen

Boy by Band of Outsiders And New Lanvin To The Family

June 22nd, 2009 Nini 52 comments

I really loved the Boy by Band of Outsiders black and white horizontal stripe skirt. The fabric of the skirt is a stretchy spandex that just sucks everything in.

dunst

I didn’t purchase it  because several of my friends who have the skirt said that they all had trouble with the zipper getting stuck on the fabric.  I didn’t want to pay $695 and have to get my zipper fixed every time I wore the skirt.  I walked by Metropark last week and saw this BOY-lookalike skirt for $54. It has a similar cut and the fabric acts the same as the BOY skirt except it doesn’t have the zipper closure. The skirt is fantastic. What steal! I wore the skirt twice already and love it.

NINITIP: I love wearing skirts that are cut to flatter my shape. If I had to offer a tip on how to wear them, I would say that I can’t stress the concept of balance and proportion enough. The draping of a flowing top or the strong geometric lines of a boyfriend blazer are good ways to balance a super tight skirt and create a perfect mix of sexy and masculine. But although I think a pencil skirt + camisole + boyfriend blazer is a super cute and dependable combination, I don’t think that the outfit works without the blazer. For example, only a woman with a perfect body can wear a skin-tight top and match it well with a skin-tight bottom. But it’s difficult for even that body shape to pull that outfit off because the silhouette is meant for night wear. In the real world, fashion has to reflect your style but it also has to be realistic and wearable for females who are constantly on the go. A tight fitting skirt worn properly is a great item for exactly that type of woman: a tight fitting skirt is sexy and should show your body shape but (at the right length) is not too revealing. I think that the best match for a tight pencil skirt is a loose top or a masculine item like a blazer because those shapes create a good balance and can be worn both day and night.

Welcome to the family:IMG_0072

Have a nice day everyone!!! xoxoxo Nini Nguyen

The W2:

What: Rick Owens dress, Givenchy boots, F21 ring, and tights by Sam Spears from Etsy.
Why:  The dress with the boots by itself is elegant and simple which is great, but I like to add a touch of  punk into this classy look and the reason why I added the spider web :-)

First, I just wanted to say thanks to  everyone for the wonderful compliments on the new hair! I’m glad I got your approval on it. We did a couple of shoots for the new banner photo. As many of you remember I wore this dress before with the Ann D flats. Well, I love this dress a lot and decided to do a shoot with it again. This time I wanted to style it differently with my Rodarte look-a-like spider tights made by Sam Spears on Etsy and my favorite Givenchy booties.    These Givenchy boots are the best. Not only are they super comfortable, they also look great with everything. I LOVE THEM!!! Last but not least, many of you can see that I have added “NiniShop” to the blog.  I’ll start putting stuff up for sale there.  Some of the things I will sell are items that I don’t wear anymore and some will be vintage that I have been collecting from everywhere. I love for my readers to get the first dibs before I put it up on Ebay.  Hopefully I can have it launch sometime this weekend. I’ll keep you guys posted!!  Have a wonderful day everyone!! Hope you enjoy the new banner!
