Trading Out, Trading Up

November 30th, 2009 Nini Leave a comment Go to comments

Hi everyone-
So sorry for the lack of posts and comments lately but I just wanted to let you all know that I read every one of your comments and I do think of you guys all the time. Your comments mean a lot to me and your sweet words are so important. Thank you so much for your support.

Loc and I are playing with lightning right now. I’m wearing one of my old dresses from Class by Roberto Cavalli that I bought at Neimans like 6 years ago. I’m thinking about cutting this dress so that it falls just above my knee. What do you guys think?

I have not bought anything new lately. I have just been using what I have in my closet and mixing up my wardrobe to make everything fresh looking….but Barneys is having a huge sale right now and I do have my eyes on some of the shoes. My new rule is Trading Out. If I want something new, I have to sell something old. My friend Natasha calls this  “Recession Fashionista Economics.” So speaking of those shoes at Barneys: I can’t buy them until I sell some of my shoes for a trade out :) .

Get rid of the stuff you don’t wear anymore and use that money to buy something new. That’s a great way to save your bucks. Every one of us works really hard for our money and even though clothes are important, they shouldn’t always be our first priority in life. So be careful, spend your money wisely and don’t waste your old clothes: Trade Out so you can then Trade Up!

Have fun and go to Barneys today to check out their sales.
xoxo Nini

I agree with your philosophy; fashion can pay for itself if you know what to do haha! I think the dress would look cute either way btw :)

  3. November 30th, 2009 at 19:40 | #3

Love the dress Nini! The first pic of Loc is funny is he copying your pose or is he instructing you to do so? I’m doing that trading ou trading out thing too before the year ends.. One of my new year’s resolution is to get rid of the junk in my closet..=]

I have to say that your makeup these days has been PERFECT. Love it. You look so glamorous!

Yeah, I think you should hem it. I have a few dresses in my closet that need hemming too…I’m just too lazy to take it to the tailor!

hehe cute pics of Loc! You look fabulous and I totally agree with your fashion philosophy.

You look stunning! PLease let me know if you decide to sell some shoes!!

  9. November 30th, 2009 at 22:35 | #9

Usually I’m into longer lengths, but that dress would look good a wee bit shorter.

  10. November 30th, 2009 at 23:18 | #10

it looks like a tricky hemming job because of the shape of it. but i do think it would look better a tad bit shorter. fabulous fur!
im sort of the same way when it comes to clothes. i dont do a strict one in one out, but i tell myself i cant keep adding more and more if i dont clear out some things. it’s gradually getting harder to weed stuff out because ive become very selective of what comes into my closet.

Love your hair & makeup! That jacket is gorge! Don’t know how easy it would be to take the dress up, but I agree that it’d look better a little shorter ;)

Do not cut the dress. I think the dress is SO WONDERFUL like this :) It wouldn’t look ugly if you cut it but I think it is more wonderful this way. :) Obviously you know what you prefer :D

I WOULDN´T CUT THE DRESS AT ALL. THE LENGHT IS PERFECT! BUT WHY DON´T YOU WEAR IT WITH BOOTS ? MORE MODERN AND CHIC!. AS FOR YOUR MAKE-UP AND FACE, THIS IS THE TIME I FIND YOU MORE BEAUTIFUL OF ALL. INDEED! REALLY CHIC. AND LOVE THE PINK HUES ON YOU! DON´T YOU THINK YOU ARE TOO OFTEN IN BLACK ?

Couldn’t agree with you more. This is something that I love about this latest recession in our history: it’s finally made it cool to be poor! Or rather, cool to be… kind (there was an 80s song like that: but it was ‘cruel to be kind’).

It was inevitable after all that bling & excess went on for so long – our global culture was so like Rome before the Fall – and my husband & I (like my parents) just didn’t buy into it. I’ve often said that I’ve spent more on clothes when I was single in my 20s. The only thing I haven’t yet done is sold a single thing online. I have a lot of trouble parting with things in general, and really do need to give things away more.

Anyway, I’m waffling. I love that look, and love the shots of Loc – and can’t believe that’s faux fur! But then again my lovely chocolate brown faux fur jacket looks pretty darn authentic, too. Which reminds me: when I bought it @ Portobello Road, I promised myself I’d give away a very old, vintage faux fur giant jacket that I’ve worn too much & is in perfect condition. I’m marching it over to the charity shop this weekend!

I’d love to borrow you friend Natasha’s line, it’s brilliant. If/when I do, does she have a blog to link to? Actually: I’m going to link this article on my ’spotlight on’ thing on my sidebar!

Have a lovely weekend, Nini & Loc! xoxo
