Sands of Time

November 20th, 2011 32 comments

Can you feel winter? The holiday spirit is in the air and I love this time of year. I enjoy wearing neutral colors as much as I enjoy wearing bright colors, fun prints & black. But lately I’ve been really obsessed with wearing all ivory. It is a way to embrace the winter and to me, ivory seems to feel cozy and fresh at once.  I’m pretty well rounded when it comes to color but I often shy away from embellishment. I try to buy clothes that will last me for a long time that I can wear over and over again for years.

Embellishment is nice for the moment but over time it never fails to begin looking dated. I always recommend my clients to purchase clothes that don’t have an expiration date on them. I personally love a broad range of cuts: my clothes vary from clean lines to funky silhouettes. I’ve written about the value of accessories before and I love to buy clothing that can be jazzed up or dressed down by changing up the accessories.

I’m wearing a big vintage Escada sweater-jacket by  that I recently found for my Timeless Chic boutique. It is super comfortable & warm. Great for traveling! Thanksgiving is just around the corner and this look would be perfect for to spending time with family while looking good and feeling comfortable at the same time.
I hope everyone’s holidays are getting off to a great start! XO Nini

The Clean, The Straight Lines

November 18th, 2011 31 comments

I have always admired the way leather can drape. It has so much potential! Leather will keep you safe from wind during the winter and allow you to wear structured pieces, flowing pieces and geometric pieces without the winter bulk. Because I’ve been looking for a good lightweight leather top that will look flattering on the body without being so body conscious, I decided to create one. The clean, straight lines of this top were also inspired by the Vietnamese Aodai. It’s comfortable to wear and has a longer back hem that covers the rear end. So many women have been telling me that they want to wear tight skinny jeans but don’t feel comfortable showing their back side because it is too revealing. Sometimes super tight pants can make a great look and sometimes, they just aren’t appropriate.  This top was created to show what you want to show and hide what you don’t.

This leather top has great movement and feels sexy at the same time, with the high side slits to show only a hint of skin. This top can be worn with a nude camisole for someone who doesn’t feel comfortable showing skin but will still have the same effect.

I’m really excited to have this top in my collection because it’s such a easy piece that looks amazing with wide legged jeans or skinny jeans. Also I love it with black wide leg trousers.

We are currently taking limited special orders for this leather top. You can send your inquiries to nini@ninistyle.com. Thanks for reading! xo Nini

VISION IN BLACK

November 16th, 2011 17 comments

I love over-the-knee boots because I think their sex appeal is so strong! Sexy and understated are always a good mix: they don’t show your legs but they most certainly accentuate them. A pair of over-the-knee boots is definitely a must in every woman’s closet because they just go with everything!

If you like boots and are shopping for a pair now, buy over-the-knee boots! If you plan to build your wardrobe around those boots this winter, I suggest that you buy two pairs: one pair with a higher heel that you can use for night time with dresses or for a dressier event during the day and a second pair for casual moments, day time errands & comfort. The boots can have a low heel or even be flat with a little more room around the calves and thighs so that you can tuck your jeans in. Just add loose, basic T’s and chunky sweaters to wear for running around during the day or to your kid’s soccer practice.

Today, I’m wearing a loose double-breasted silk tunic with my over-the-knee boots. It’s all about the proportion: something loose on top is balanced out with something sexy and fitted on the bottom. I wouldn’t do a mini fitted dress with an over the knees boots. It’s just not my style. I like something sexy yet sophisticated and the slim boots are great for playing with volume in other areas of your outfit.

Have a lovely day everyone! xoxo Nini

ALAIA

November 11th, 2011 36 comments

If someone asked me to name one item that I could not live without, I would say it was this vintage python Azzedine Alaia high-waisted skirt that a dear friend got me from Paris. I love good quality seasonless skirts, new or vintage, in any type of exotic skin or a beautiful heavy crepe.

You don’t have to live in the corporate world to own pencil skirts. They’re just chic and elegant to wear. You can pair them with a simple, fitted, white button down tops and fabulous accessories for dinner or you can dress them down with a comfortable, loose T and low-cut booties to meet up with your girlfriends for coffee.

When you are trying to dress up your pencil skirts for a special event or formal dinner, I suggest that you wear heels that help elongate the legs. I also suggest that you try to stay away from mid-calf booties. Sexy pumps always look amazing with pencil skirts and they help bring out the best silhouette for every girl.

Have a great weekend everyone!! xo Nini

NiniChic: Bright Colored Skirt

November 9th, 2011 23 comments

I love a bright colored skirt I can wear year round. Skirts seem tailor made to make a woman feel sophisticated and ladylike with clean lines and the suggestion of a dress. They’re perfect for a luncheon, board meeting or work holiday parties. I prefer my skirts to be knee length or to hang just past the knee. I also love a high waist to help elongate my torso. I just love the ladylike feel of the silhouette.

I normally don’t wear mini skirts but if I had killer legs I would be all over them. For me, the cut is about elongation so I wear them as high as possible on the waist and don’t mind a little length. But for someone who has a thicker waist, I would suggest to wearing your skirt on the hip instead of the waist to prevent accentuating the area.

It would be best to pair your A -line skirts with fitted tops: tuck in your top and add a statement necklace or earrings to dress it up. To give it an extra edge you can throw on some fur to give it a nice pop! Do you wear fur? Send me a photo! I’m working on a guide for how to shop for and wear vintage fur.

Thanks for reading and have a wonderful day! xoxo Nini
