My clients always ask me how to get the right fit–from sweaters, coats and jackets to pants and skirts, the way these items fit your silhouette will make or break the outfit. Sometimes, the fashion world gets really excited about a certain trend (Balmain’s strong shoulder, the skinny jean) and everyone rushes to wear it. But not every silhouette is for every body. I recommend wearing the silhouettes that make you feel confident: sometimes finding a timeless silhouette is more practical than chasing trends. I always experiment with trendy silhouettes but I settle on what is right for me.
To find the fit that works for you, you have to be realistic: if you have a body part that you feel insecure about, don’t try to hide it with clothing. Use it to your advantage. For example, I’ve mentioned before that my hips are my biggest fear. If I gain or loose any weight, it all goes directly to my hips. Basically, my hip is the thickest part of my body and my upper body is long.
I’m a huge fan of high waisted bottoms because they show off my problem area by flattering it. High waisted pants, shorts and skirts help elongate my hips and make my body look longer. The silhouette is versatile and sexy yet sophisticated. I love wearing highwaisted skirts or shorts with a voluminous blouse tucked in. It’s a classic look that you can’t go wrong with. If you want to dress down a hightwaisted bottom you always can throw on a loose white tee-shirt and a pair of gladiator sandals or wedges for a great look this Spring. Happy April everyone!!! xoxo Nini Nguyen
Wearing: F21 jean, Helmut Lang tank, vintage scarf, Alexander McQueen clutch, Supper sunnies and YSL gray tribute pumps
This is what I wore out to a dinner with Loc to celebrate his birthday. The dinner was casual and I really didn’t want to be dressed too over the top but I also didn’t want to feel too dressed down. I decided to wear something comfortable yet chic. I don’t like to wear jeans because most of them are made of such thick denim with little to no give or stretch and feel like I can’t move in them. This Forever 21 jean is an exception. It’s so comfortable and the material holds it’s shape really well.
NiniTip: Quick Fix
Sometimes our busy schedules require two or three wardrobe changes a day. If you are on the go and have to change a day outfit into an evening one, do not panic. One item that works well for both casual day and evening chic is a pair of jeans. When you want to give your jeans and tee-shirt a lift, throw on your favorite silk scarf and a pair of great heels and you’re ready to go! I call it a Quick Fix and it always helps me out in a pinch. Have a great day everyone!! xoxo Nini

The photo shoot we did in Vietnam was great but they didn’t take enough shots of us together. When we looked at the whole album together, we realized that the photos didn’t tell our story the way we had wanted. We decided to have our friend QC, who is a well known photographer in Dallas, retake them for us. This time the theme I came up for the shoot was play house. I wanted the shoot to be romantic, soft, and fun but editorial in a way that related to the things that we do daily in our life.
I will post the full series of the shoot later but here are some photos of us taken by QC of XO Photography. Isn’t he amazing?? And a huge thanks goes to our dear friend Susie who let us use the perfect place for the play house fantasy! xoxo Nini
Wearing: vintage levis, necklaces & leather jacket, Rick Owens tank, Super sunnies and YSL booties
I went out for some vintage shopping on Tuesday and found this fabulous leather jacket at a local vintage store in Dallas, it’s called Dolly Phython. They have a huge vintage jewelry collection and that’s where I found my two new favorite necklaces. Leather jacket is not easy to find, especially the one that fits you nicely and within your budget. I love to mix vintage pieces with current styles to stay up-to-date. Have a nice day everyone!! xoxo Nini Nguyen
