Orange and Lace

May 6th, 2012 20 comments

We’ve gone from a short spring right into summer! It’s impossible to wear jeans or jackets right now because it is so hot here. I recently took trip to Forever 21 to look for some light-weight bottoms for kicking around on these hot summer days that we’re having in Dallas. I found 7 pairs of shorts! My favorite pair are these nude lace shorts that I absolutely love. What really stood out to me about the trip to F21 was the quality of the pieces I found: amazing! What a great way to stock up on summer trends and balance out your wardrobe without breaking the bank.

Although I love summer, the heat can really wreak havoc on your skin. I had been using a MAC foundation all winter but it tended to cause breakouts. A friend of mine recommended the Laura Mercier silk cream foundation and I have been using it for the last two months. I really love it. It goes on smoothly and makes your complexion glow. I also use the Laura Mercier secret camouflage concealer which works wonders for red spots and covers acne. Have a great day! xoxo Nini

REFLECTION

April 26th, 2012 26 comments

It’s that time of year again…spring cleaning, spring reorganizing and spring shopping! My closet is really ‘basic item’ heavy and I’ve been on the hunt for pieces with a little pizazz to add to the mix. I love what ASOS has on their website right now for Spring and Summer. I’ve been obsessing over adding a few items from ASOS to spice up the wardrobe for this season. I love wearing white in the summer but I also admire a flirty little dress with an artsy print. ASOS is a great go-to for seasonal items because you always find items that make a great look that is well put together without breaking the bank.

It has been quite a busy beginning to the Spring and my go-to shoes this season are really taking a beating! During the day, I’m constantly running around to shop for my clients and I live in my Christian Louboutin Super Dombasle or my orange Hermes flats. I must find another alternative soon before these shoes are fully worn out. For night time I like my heels to be tall and sleek. When I find something that works for me I stick with it. A great example are the Daffodiles that I wear over and over again. They’re worth every penny I put into them!

I wore this dress out with our friends to a casual dinner. Anther ASOS favorite!
This dress runs big. If you get it be sure to go down a size. I hope you all are well and thank you so much for reading.

Hermes Scarf

December 23rd, 2011 20 comments

I’m super excited to share this post with all of you as an easy alternative to busy or seasonal holiday looks. Sometimes, dressing for the holidays is hard simply because seasonal dressing is hard: you have to stay away from certain patterns or colors or embrace them and make them work. I was getting ready to go to a holiday party with Loc and my clients at a cozy uptown Italian restaurant when I came up with this little trick. I’ve been going non-stop with all the holiday events for the past few weeks and I needed a new look. It ended up being something anyone could pull off for holiday parties or dinners.

I know many of us have beautiful scarves. I’m sometimes guilty of buying scarves with vivid prints that end up sitting in the drawer and don’t get much wear. Do you have a scarf or two that you don’t wear too often or have no idea what to do with? Now is the perfect time to pull them out! Give your scarves a new life for the holiday and give your holiday looks a twist. I will show you how. This short DIY project is super easy, fun and you will instantly have something new to wear without spending any money. Got to love that!!!

I use the scarves as a layering piece underneath my jacket to have a pop of color. If you don’t have a long jacket like this you can layer it with a long black soft cardigan and jeans.

Here is how to do it:

You need 2 scarves in a square shape. Use one scarf for the front of your top and one in the back. The back piece will hold the weight of the front piece and will work to keep the front scarf in balance. The one I use measures 36″x36″

In the photos I’m using scarf #1 for front & #2 for back.

First fold #2 scarf into a triangle. The reason why I have it folded up is because I don’t want it to peep out from underneath my jacket.

Then, knot one of the corners of scarf #1 & #2 together.

Put it over your shoulder and then tie the second corners of the two scarves together.

It is that simple: you have the one shoulder top. Leave the back as is.

Put on your jacket or cardigan and a fabulous necklace or earrings and you are set to go!!! Is it too loose? Belt it at the waist. Have fun with the patterns and colors! Wishing you and your family a Merry Christmas!! xoxo NINI

Holiday Look: Bold Accessories

December 11th, 2011 17 comments

Do you have a full schedule of holiday parties to attend? Are you stressing out about what to wear? Don’t worry because I’m here to give you my best advice! Keep checking back because for the next two weeks, I will have several posts on how to dress appropriately for your holiday parties while standing out yet looking festive and chic.

Loc and I recently attended my client’s holiday party at her home. Remember this lace Givenchy blouse that I wore with the Balenciaga leather leggings? Here I am wearing it again. Lace, satin and silk always go well together for the holidays. This time I dressed it up with a fun A-line skirt from Alaia and paired it with satin pumps. To make the black assemble pop I added bright lipstick for a contrast and bold jewelry to make it festive for the holidays! This is the time of year that you can wear all the fun,  glitzy clothes you own. Have something covered in sequins? Bring it out to play!
Be sure to check back for my tips on holiday party dressing and remember, you just don’t want to blend in. You want to stand out!

When Adding Something New To Your Closet

December 8th, 2011 16 comments

Hi everyone- I hope everyone is doing well and getting ready for Christmas. Make your list and check it twice!  Thank you so much for all the kind compliments on Leann Rimes in the green circle dress.

It has been so cold in the last few days in Dallas! We are all trying to stay warm. Do you remember this Alexander Wang sweater that I wore in a previous post with the vintage Chanel skirt? The look was much dressier. Here I’m wearing the sweater again but this time I styled it more casually by putting it on with a t-shirt and skinny jeans. I love to keep my closet full of items that I’m able to wear again and again and to mix and match with different things I already own. There is no point in spending money on garments that you only can wear once.

The advice that I give to all my clients is when adding something new to your closet, always make sure you can style it 4 or 5 different ways by switching out the accessories. I always recommend items that can function well during the day and transition into a night outfit as well. That way you will wear it more than one time.
Here is my example of how I styled the Alexander Wang sweater when I added it to my closet.
Look 1: pair it back with a pencil skirt
Look 2: wear casually with skinny jeans and t-shirts
Look 3: mix silhouettes and pair with wide legged jeans and t-shirts
Look 3: mix textures and wear with high-waisted silk pants
Look 4: create a whimsical look and wear over a flowing dress
Look 5: add a little sex appeal and wear with an A-line leather skirt.

When you have trouble making a decision about whether or not you should buy an item, make a list in your mind or write it down. Put the item on hold so that you know you can always can come back and buy it. Then, when the pressure is off, look into your closet. Is the item compatible?

Have a great day everyone!!xoxo NINI
