DIY Project: Aluminum Gold Bangles

June 27th, 2012 12 comments

I saw something great during my trip to Paris while I was walking down Boulveward Beaumarchais that I was excited to recreate at home. I was passing by a store that sells nothing but painter’s tape and I thought to myself, how cool would it be if I used the tape to make bangles…I realized it could be used for a ton of DO IT YOURSELF projects. I bought a big roll of aluminum foil masking tape before I had a specific project in mind because I knew I could put it to good use. I also picked up some small rolls of masking tape in different colors at Merci.

Step by Step:
Step 1: You can pick out any inexpensive cuffs in your jewelry drawer that you don’t wear anymore and give them a new life or just pick up some cuffs at your local Goodwill. I’m using some old Club Monaco plastic bangles.

Step 2: Measure a strip of the tape the same size as the perimeter of the outside of the bangle and cut it.

Step 3: Peel off the tape and stick it on the cuffs. Fold the sides of the tape down over the edge and attach to back side.

And there you have it. Easy-breezy! After making these, I couldn’t help but think that these bangles are something Margiela might have in their collection. Something about the uneven texture and unusual materials remind me of MMM.

Have fun revamping and remaking! And remember, this DIY doesn’t require a steady hand. Be sure to tweet me and tag me in your facebook or instragram photos of your gold DIY bangles. You can find these fainter tape at any hardware store or even eBay just type in aluminum tape. Have a creative day! xoxo Nini

Wyoming

June 26th, 2012 10 comments

We’re visiting our friend’s ranch this week in Saratoga, Wyoming. For the last few days we have been surrounded by nothing but nature. It’s great to escape from the city and it’s amazing to be here and to have this quiet time to ourselves.

Wyoming is one of the more Western states. The fashion sense here is very low key and the people here are extremely kind and friendly. For this trip I packed mostly casual, everyday clothes that I don’t mind getting dirty. We spend a lot of time on a four wheeler just exploring the land and we’ve have seen elk, antelope, deer and rabbits running around. We also went out for a fishing trip in the mountains with our friend and found that the views here are breathtaking. Here are some photos that I would like to share with you. I will share more on my next post. Thank you for visiting my blog and I hope you all have a wonderful day :-) xo NINI

Tricks for Packing & More

June 21st, 2012 11 comments

While we walked around the city, I discovered a few new spots that I really love on this trip. For all my vegan & vegetarian readers, you have to try Wild Ginger. It’s Asian fusion and their dishes are insanely good. I had the mango salad and soba noodles w/ tofu and I enjoyed every single bite. It’s located at 380 Broome St.

Treasure and Bond is my new favorite spot to shop in NYC. The concept of the store is very similar to Merci in Paris except the fact that Treasure and Bond carries mostly upcoming designers which makes it even more special. And 100% of the store’s profits go to NYC children. The hotel we stayed in is right next door so I’m in here almost every day just to look around since I admire the concept and execution of the store so much.

And if you walk around Soho you have got to stop by American Two Shot. It’s very urban and hip with a great little coffee shop inside. This is their website: http://americantwoshot.com/

I’m wearing my new T shirt from Topshop. I pared it down with my leather leggings. I like to pack a few staple items when I travel that I’m able to wear again and again. The leather leggings were perfect for that during this trip.  Also my main trick for packing is to pack outfits that look good w/ flats during the day and can easily be switched with heels for night. That way you can reuse items on your trip for different days but also for different parts of a single day. For shoes, I packed 2 pairs for walking and 1 for night time.  Have a lovely day everyone and thanks for reading my blog :-) Nini

From the Hudson River

June 20th, 2012 17 comments

We were truly blessed to experience such a wonderful view of Manhattan from the Hudson River off of a boat owned by our lovely friends. The weather that day was in the 70F and a little colorful, lightweight sweater with leather leggings was perfect. My New York trip with Loc was eye opening for me. I have visited NYC quiet often but this trip was a completely different experience…I finally got deeper into exploring NYC and felt a true connection to the culture and the beauty of the city of all the history behind it. I hope you enjoy the photos and thank you so much for reading my blog :-)

Empire State of Mind

June 13th, 2012 18 comments

Hi everyone, Loc and I are having such a lovely time here in NYC. Since I’m with Loc this time, there is more tourism and a little less fashion. I get to explore and do new things that I have not done before and I’m excited to see the city in this different way. I got to visit the Empire State Building today for the first time. I would recommend it for everyone who comes to visit NYC. We went to the Met and saw the Prada and Elsa Schiaparelli exhibit (it was so beautiful!).  The weather is nice so we walk everywhere. Just as there is fashion inspiration for me here, there are so many great photo moments for Loc.

I’m wearing my new blouse from Y3 to dinner at Spice Market. I also wore it again the next day. When I buy something new I always keep in mind that it has to transition well. When I shop I try to make sure that the item I am considering would look as chic for day as it would for night.

I’m all about a great white blouse, white tunic or a white dress. White to me is clean and classic. White items are a great canvas for the other parts of your outfit and as I always say, you can always make the item work differently every time you wear it by switching out the accessories. Hope everyone is doing well and thank you so much for reading my blog :-)
