NiniChic: Shop Your Archives

August 16th, 2009 Nini Leave a comment Go to comments

I’m on a shopping freeze. I’m saving money to go back to Vietnam for the Vietnamese New Year. I’m very excited. Not shopping isn’t that hard to do once in a while because I can always shop in my closet. It’s so nice to go back in your archives to pull out things that you have not worn in awhile and mix them up with your recent purchases. I’m sure all of us have a closet full of things and half of them are things that we don’t wear.

That’s why I always say think twice before making a decision about any purchases. If you don’t, you might regret that purchase later. But to be productive, let’s say that you have a couple of items that hide in the  back of the closet and don’t see the light of day. When you bought them, chances are your closet wasn’t the same as it is today. So pull those babies out and give them a try! You might have bought something since then that would compliment it perfectly. For example, my recent purchases inspired me to dig through my archives for my BCBG MaxAzria silk drape top that I got at Neiman Marcus 7 years ago.

NiniChic: Wearing black is always chic not only because it elongates your body but also because it’s easy and effortless. The most important component to chic style is comfort; nobody can fake an effortless look unless they are at ease. I love wearing black because it’s easy to style looks that are uncomplicated in color but still complex in their cut and structure. Although, I’m a little picky when it comes to buy black. I rarely buy 100% black cotton because the fabric always seems to fade as time passes. I love see through mousseline  because it creates a sleek, mysterious look that you can wear  year round and also transform from day to night by simply adjusting accessories. Wearing black is so easy. You can style to suit your personality; you can try layering, adding a chunky piece of jewlery or going sleek in black from head to toe.

Have a nice day everyone !! xoxo Nini Nguyen

Great idea, Nini! And that great top is amazing in structure and material that it’s a wonder you kinda kept it in the closet for so long…but of course, you have a huge closet, so…!

    Love the poses, too.

Love the advice you give on your blog, part of being an awesome personal sales assistant! I agree about black being the easiest colour to wear, but I think all white can be just as refreshing.

Nini I’ve a question.. which fabrics should be avoided when shopping and which should one look out for… what does one need to know about fabrics when purchasing an article of clothing?

It’d be great actually if u could do a post on this.. since it’s so relevant and important.

Oooooh YES I think that Fashion creativity is also a subtle question of “RE-mix” AND Revivals, “Fashion with a Historical Soul”, without any kind of SYSTEMATIC adherence in what makes the Moment (AND gladly Whimsical) Tendancies !!!

    Hey Nini,

Thanks for dropping by again and leaving a comment. I always appreciate the nice things you have to say. I’m excited to hear that you’ll be going to Vietnam for new years. What part of the country will you be visiting? I was there last summer and I absolutely love it there. There’s so much to do and so much to see. I really hope you enjoy your time there and I can’t wait to see all the pictures that you take. Is Loc joining you?

It’s inspiring reading about shopping in “your closet” as a way to save money and to breath new life into some old pieces. Over the years, my body has taken a lot of different shape and form, and there have been seasons when I’m a lot heavier therefore I can’t fit into some of my old clothing. But I still hang on to them with the hopes to fitting into them again one day. So when I do slim down a bit, it’s really neat to see what I can put together with some of my current pieces with older things in my closet. Thanks for sharing, Nini. I’m sure all your readers, including myself really appreciate and admire your blog because you always share great tips on how to dress better without having to put a dent in your wallet.

I hope you had a good weekend, Nini and enjoy the rest of your evening.

    All the best,
    Carrie

You are absolutely fab. I try to buy staple pieces and make smart purchases too. It can be so hard when working retail where you’re exposed to sooo many beautiful clothes daily(I work at BCBG). I avoid prints as they can become dates sooner and opt for the higher quality unique items so that curbs the urge a little. I’d say when shopping your closet organization is key because when u cant see the things they lose face value and are easy to forget. I just bought a dress from BCBG recently that resembles that top, now I have a new way to wear it thanks to you!

Wow you look totally chic, closet shopping is great by the way. I do it all the time because I never have any money haha.

    Happy sunny tuesday morning, Nini!

Your sweet comment made my day!!!
Just 2 days until Hanh is back with her family from vacation ;) … I remember the time when Hanh was a “part” of your blog and when you featured her or you two together, it was like seeing sisters. You and Hanh have a big treasure: your wonderful friendship!!!

After I bought my Marant booties your “shopping freeze” post comes perfect in time ;)
You look so natural beautiful in all your photos, like the way when you are kidding around. CUUTE!!!

LOOOVE YOUR LOOK!!! … and your black Givenchy booties are an investment piece, so showstopping with all your outfits!

The greatest joy is the joy of anticipation … enjoy the days until your flight to Vietnam!;)

    Have a beautiful day!!!

    Hugs from…

What a cool idea, a shopping freeze! I love not shopping : ) and what better reason than to go to Vietnam? I’d love to go there someday.
You look so gorgeous, Nini. I love your hair and your all-black style. It’s like you’re your own muse, and your style keeps becoming more and more individually your own. It’s just a short step to becoming a fashion designer, and I predict that if and when you do, you’ll be brilliant at it. It’s either that, or a professional model.

sending you much love from the North Fork!

    xoxo
