About Me

Welcome to Nini’s Style!! I’m Nini Nguyen and I am currently living in Dallas, Texas. I’m a fashion consultant in Dallas. My dream is to work for myself as a stylist/ creative director someday. I started blogging in October of 2008. My boyfriend of 9 years, Loc, suggested it and has supported me ever since. Loc is in charge of all the technical support and photography for Nini’s Style. The purpose of my blog is to keep myself in line with fashion, to learn new things from all over the world, to make new friends, and to share what I know with my readers.

My personal style is structured elegance with a touch of toughness. My philosophy is that anyone can look like a million without spending a million. I shop everywhere. I believe in buying less but investing in quality clothes that will last forever. Some people think that clothing is not an investment because it does not appreciate in value over time. But I believe that several beautiful, well made items can enhance a wardrobe that is not renewable from season to season: it is timeless. I love mixing high-end designer items with low-end items and vintage. In my opinion, it’s not what you wear but how you wear it! I love outrageous pieces that have an edge to them and I like to mix them with classic pieces to balance out the look.

I love anything to do with photography, art, fashion, cooking, helping people, and making new friends. I am most inspired by my lovely family and Loc. I’m so grateful to have them in my life.

My style icon is Carine Roitfeld, the brilliant French ‘Vogue’ editor. She is a tough lady, with a down to earth attitude and you can see from her style that she is not afraid to be different. She has a strong sense of self confidence about her and seems proud to be who she is, comfortable in her own skin. Her style speaks to this and makes her seem like a woman who has little care for the opinions of others. Not only does she appear confident at all times, but her amazing style proves her to be a woman with a tiger’s eye for fashion. In other words: she is SHARP. I admire her because she doesn’t do the whole Chanel-head-to-toe look. Instead, Carine loves to mix Japanese pieces with classic Hermes. She doesn’t seem to care about the ‘trendiness’ of what she wears and focuses instead on wearing what looks great on her. Carine loves to combine masculine pieces with feminine pieces. It’s very French. It’s very sexy. It’s very REAL. My dream had always been to meet Carine in person and I can’t believe that I met her this year at the Rodarte spring 2010 show in NYC. It was a dream came true for me. When I finally met her, I realized that it’s never too late to think of things you want to do or who you want to be.
Carine Roitfeld has a beautiful collection of Azzedine Alaia, who is my all time favorite designer. Azzedine Alaia is AMAZING- I love anything sculptural. I don’t think any other designers out there know the form and curves of a woman’s body like Azzedine Alaia. I also adore Madeleine Vionnet. No ones out there can do bias cut and draping better than Madeleine Vionnet. She knows how to make women look smaller than they are supposed to look. Lately, I’m loving the masculine sexiness of Ann Demeulemeester. My style has changed over time but what has not changed is my passion for fashion. I hope you find something you like at Nini’s Style and I thank each one of you for your support and encouragement throughout the year.
xoxo

Nini Nguyen
