Hello From Vietnam

February 9th, 2010

Hello everyone! After a 19 hour flight Loc and I arrived safely in Vietnam. Thanks for all the wonderful thoughts and good wishes! The shopping here is not great. They have a few designer stores like Versace, Chloe, Roberto Cavalli and Marc Jacobs. I would guess that
they don’t have more than a 30% sell-though because there are a lot of poor people in this country. There is a small portion of the population that is rich and able to afford such things.

However, there are Vietnamese markets that sell everything replicated and at more affordable prices to suit the people who live here and the fun thing is that you can bargain with them. In fact, bargaining is expected! You have to be a good bargainer to go to this market and if you are not, you have to take a local with you to help. The shop keepers at the markets are really good at identifying people who live in America and of course when I ask the price for something they triple it up. :-). Unfortunately for them, I’m quite a good negotiator and they hate me already. :-).

Vietnamese market where you can bargain

A D&G loafer with Gucci label! Since they can’t make up their mind about what brand to put they put in both. Hey, this is a great deal! Buy D&G and get Gucci for free :-)

What’s up with the Dior signatures on the Chanel sweater?

Money goes really long way here in Vietnam. I went with my friends to get my hair and make-up done at Mano Mano in Saigon and it cost me $10.00. Got to love that!

Loc and I attended Loc’s best friend’s wedding at Majestic hotel. The place is so beautiful. It’s the most expensive hotel in Saigon. When I was there for the wedding all I saw were Americans or people from other countries.

    Hi Ni!
All your friends are beautiful but they might gonna hate me
when I say that you’re the most beautiful and glamorous among them.

Vietnamese Market is quite similar to a market in the Philippines.
Haha…we have those imitation products too and a funny label.
Vendors hate me too when I negotiate with them. Way back home, I try to avoid
buying cheap products because they aren’t in good quality. They don’t last longer.
It’s just like burning my money.

Btw, that was a beautiful wedding you went to.

Enjoy your vacation, Ni and Loc!

Great to see you and Loc are well and arrived safe in Vietnam.
How were the first days so far?
So gorgeous you’re finding the time to do some new postings with picture uploads!!! 😀

The Vietnamese market story reminded me of a trip to Mauritius. The same shoes and tops 😉 Maybe they’re getting their stuff all from the same supplier…. 😀

You look just marvellous! They did a great makeup there! The hair style is new but I like it a lot! §:-) Admire your Erdem skirt since many outfit postings now – what a fab find.
The wedding picture of your friends looks amazing! All that glitter rain and the huge glass pyramide – fun!

Wishing you and Loc more fantastic days to come!

  8. February 9th, 2010 at 15:43 | #8

Wow! You are looking good!! It looks like a really nice wedding!
I used to go to Hong Kong very often and there was a similar market that was called the “ladies market”! I was buying tons and tons of colorful pashminas!
Enjoy the rest of your trip!

    1. you looked awesome with that do! and the make-up is really gorgeous!
    2. that´s what i love in asia, salon trips are so cheap and not that bad!
    3. LOL on the imitation goods. does somebody even buy this crap?
    4. HAVE FUN WITH LOC THERE!

    xoxo

  13. February 9th, 2010 at 20:10 | #13

not-so-great shopping can be an adventure in itself, as you have relayed in a few photos (dior logo on chanel sweater….hmmm..lol!) we don’t have much shopping here in the islands (ok, none really, apart from surf & swimwear, plus some club-inspired clothing) but it can be a weirdly fun event, if you have an open mind.

posh hotel! and your lace top and gorgeous green skirt, oh WOW. how pretty. the green w/ black really suits you.

nice to see your post from vietnam- looks like a fun trip!

You look like an exotic bird among everyone else at that wedding with your fab hair and outfit! It’s always so cool how one item you wear is designer and then you just throw in some F21!

actually the park hyatt and sheraton are both more expensive then the majestic in saigon! i prefer to stay at the sheraton though. 3 showerheads in the one shower. heaven! you gotta love the vietnamese makets! LOL at the cross branding.

you’re way too stylish for vietnam. that alone shows you’re not a native. loving your outfit x

  23. February 10th, 2010 at 06:18 | #23

Your outfit is precious, I love the green. Looking forward to more Vietnam posts, this country has always fascinated me.

  24. February 10th, 2010 at 09:12 | #24

That hair is so hawwt!!! Love the lace top with the full skirt combo, sexy but elegant!

  25. February 10th, 2010 at 15:33 | #25

It’s really funny how they mix the labels up. As I was in Thailand they did they same – or they asked me whether I want them to sew an armani/gucci whatever dress for me 😉
    You girls look gorgeous!
