Be Chic In The Chill Weather

December 19th, 2009

Winter time is my least favorite time of the year. The weather is cold and its gets dark so early that you can’t get anything done. I can’t even work on photos taken because by the time I get off work the sun has already come down. I imagine that it must be even worse if you live somewhere really cold and icy like Boston or NYC. Ladies, if your career requires that you dress chicly or if you simply require that of your self, don’t let the yucky weather stop you from dressing up. Think chic AND cozy for  the wet, cold weather. Skinny jeans work over-time: layer them with tee-shirts and fur. Layer cashmere dresses with chunky nekclaces and long gloves and wear them short and tight with over the knee boots and scarves. There is so much that you can do for the winter time if you remember  to layer.
I don’t like to shop for the winter because we have a really short winter here in Texas. It only gets cold in December and stays cold until February and then the weather returns to normal. I have a few winter items and I work them in with my year round items.
Some of the items that I have invested in over the years and am still using are long leather gloves, a leather jacket, a pair of over the knee boots, a pair of leather booties, a bright colored scarf and a few lightweight cashmere turtlenecks. Those items are classics and I use them every winter.
One of my favorite looks to wear in the winter time is wearing my statement necklaces with my winter wardobe. I feel like if you have on the simplest black cashmere dress with your leggings,  throw on your fur, let a statement neckline complete your look and call it a day. It’s so chic, especially when you are all bundled up with your coat hiding inside it all the fabrics like hidden treasures while the only thing anyone can see is your fabulous necklaces. A perfect winter fashion treat! Have a nice weekend to everyone!! xoxo Nini Nguyen

Thanks Paula for the photos :-)

THE GIFT OF LIFE

I do love winter ! Of course you’re right, it’s night so early, it is cold, it is grey but winter has something so special, something magic ! I’m so lucky because for two days it is snowing here in France and I swear it is so beautiful, so magic so stunning !

Moreover I think that it is more interesting to dress in winter than in summer ! When it is hot outside I’m not so creative, I only think about finding a pool and a cold drink !!^^ But during winter it is not the same, it is much more interesting, much more creative because you’ve got to get warm and to stay chic, You can superpose clothing, you can mix colors and textures !

If we talk about winter… I came week ago to Poland for Christmas, and here is real winter:) Dark almost all day long, deep snow, you need very warm coat, hat, real boots to walk and flat ones unforunately, no joke with temperature -20:) But my daughter loves it and we going for a walk every day, and I have reason to wear all those sweaters and warm things…

But you dear Nini looking great every season! Regards

    Hey Nini,
what an uber cool outfit for the Winter in Texas! I love the third picture the most! Costume National is such a very underestimated label – they’re doing incredible collections – my most beloved sweaters are coming from Costume National, too. Some of them are almost eight or nine years old and they’re still chic and look like brand new. That tells a lot about a brand, doesn’t it!
The Barneys over the knee boots are the perfect addition to this outfit! G R E A T!
Happy weekend (wow, the last one before Christmas!) to you and Loc!
    xoxo S.

yes, it really gets cold here during winter
    and today we’re expecting snowstorm.
just to give you an idea how cold it’s here…
i left mr. freddy’s baby cologne in the car
and last night i can’t use it because it’s
    frozen already.
on the other hand, i like 50% of winter.
i just love to see every thing is white.

btw, you really look so chic, nini!
i love that color of your shirt.

happy holidays to you and your family.

i like winter (Florida winter that is), because it is a chance to really get to wear what i want to wear. it is actually cold this morning. i too dont spend a lot on winter clothes, because really we dont have a winter, just a few days of “cold” here and there.

i dislike winter too, its like when i wake up in the morning when its still dark and several hours later, its goes dark again, can’t get much activity going such as shopping and taking pictures.

i’m gonna try investing in cashmere, although i do have several pieces of winter coats which most probably i wouldn’t be using for the next few years if i were to go back to malaysia, but still… cuz looking chic for winter is almost impossible for me

Yes, I agree!! It’s frigid here in NYC…Yesterday morning, it was 16 degrees! Yikes. We have a blizzard on the way today :( I’m wearing my shearling coat, fur hat (it looks like the one in Dr. Zhivago), boots, and lots of layers. I hate winter too…it’s awful. You can’t wear nice shoes when it’s 16 degrees. I have to pull out my Uggs. Ugh.

Great tips Nini! I should really utilize my statement necklaces more often as well as my blazers. I love how paired that necklace with that simple shirt, it looks so sophisticated and professional!
